Summer:
Port Pirie hosts many summer events that make the most of its iconic beaches and waterways. The annual port Pirie Beach Carnival runs for two weeks from January- featuring water based activities, sporting events, carnival rides and entertainment. It's the perfect opportunity to soak up the sun and cool off in the ocean. Additionally, live music performances from local and visiting artists can be enjoyed in the sundrenched sound shell at Memorial Park from November through to March.
Autumn:
As the temperatures begin to cool in autumn, Port Pirie turns to celebrating the region’s agricultural bounty. In March, the Northern Areas Agricultural Show is a family-friendly fair that showcases livestock, produce, and machinery offerings from the region's farmers. Visitors can get hands-on experience with activities like hay-throwing contests or enjoy the food, drinks and rides.
Winter:
During the winter months, Port Pirie offers plenty of opportunities for those who love the cold and snow. May sees the SnowFlake Festival at Solomontown beach where you can experience the rare site of the regional waters turning white as the town brings in a truck of artificial snow for the kids to play in. During August, the Port Pirie Winter Wonderland displays ice sculptures created on site and fun activities perfect for any age group.
Spring:
Springtime in Port Pirie is all about the blooming flowers and trees. In October, the Port Pirie Spring Garden Festival highlights the unique flora of the region’s parks, gardens and reserves. Locals and visitors alike can explore the green spaces on foot or by bike trails, enjoy the beauty of the flowers and shrubs, and take home some gardening tips and plants.
Throughout the year, Port Pirie also hosts a number of markets and cultural events. The CBD runs regular markets events and weekly farmers markets provide fresh produce, homemade goods and artisanal products from the local area. And for those interested in the culture of the area, the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery offers a rotating schedule of exhibits from local artists, and an insight to the local history museum.
